North West Shelf Restructure

Image
Australia’s North West Shelf (NWS) gas and oil project is well over 30 years old, it has grown dramatically from the original vision, with low oil and gas prices it is not surprising that the big early investors are reviewing their strategies. The investors in Chevron, BP, Shell and BHP are not looking for passive utility like returns. When the NWS project was .... Continue reading....

2020 – Sustainably Powered Lives

Image
Sustainable renewable energy will be a clear pillar of the post Covid 19 world. Whilst the oil majors cut their dividends and reduce capital expenditure their investment in renewable energy has been ring fenced. This ongoing change within the oil majors demonstrates that they have both a pragmatic streak and continue to think long-term. Most were early investors in solar energy but its time was not ready. They next moved in and out of coal, pure retail and car maintenance. Today they are currently focused on gas but must be cutting their investment in new gas projects. At a time when they are focused on the image at both the community and shareholder levels their leadership in renewable energy should be welcomed. Their investment will drive technology resulting in many projects for others that do not meet their investment criteria which include size. 2020 to need to be a substantial year for solar and other renewable projects. The investment majors will continue to see the prices of so...

PREPARING FOR A POST-COVID-19 WORLD

Image
Covid 19, as we call it now, emerged from the city of Wuhan in China. It emerged in December 2019 and came to prominence around the time of Chinese New Year. It has spread globally and impacted on all developed and developing economies. We need deal with it and its business impacts in a clinical manner and without entering the blame game. Transformation one and information superhighway

Image
Now is the time to reset what we want for our country. Every country should and must do the same. It is not a time to plan to return from hibernation. That world has gone for ever. We need transition and transformation to what we want our country to be. There should be no sacred cows. It is time for nation building and transitioning to a vision for 2100 and not 2021. Our forebears used times of adversity to change our country. In their time the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Snowy Mountains electric scheme were ridiculed, both changed Australia for the better. The need for information superhighway is no longer visionary it’s a necessity. We need to be looking for fulfilling jobs for a smart workforce many of which can substantially be done from home. Things once again will need to be done in Australia, and other countries, to maintain independence and hence sovereignty. Australia will need to refine oil, service aircraft, have a shipping industry, produce computers but to name a f...

LESSONS ALREADY LEARNED FOR COVID-19

Image
CLICK HERE AND LEARN MORE At the time of writing Australia is bunkering down to deal with the inevitable impact of Covid-19. Sunday it was announced that all people entering Australia from overseas would need to go into 14 days compulsory isolation. New Zealand had earlier announced, with the exception of some Pacific Islanders that anyone returning coming from overseas will need to go into 14 days mandatory isolation. South Korea, Italy, France and Spain are in self-isolation with the US blocking flights from the UK and the EU. Effectively each closing the country to the world. This has already occurred in parts of South America. Singapore and Hong Kong are braving the world but unfortunately is not business as usual. Each day we hear of more countries closing their borders to prevent the spread of the disease they feel they cannot control. In Latin America, In the case of El Salvador, this is because it could not afford an outbreak and many of the countries surrounding them...

Power Stability in Australia

Image
Background The Liberal / National party coalition had been in power, in Australia, since 2013. Tony Abbott’s Views on energy policy cost him his job as Prime Minister in 2015 to Malcolm Turnbull and then caused Turnbull to lose the top job to Scott Morrison in August 2018. Abbott had a very clear vision of Australia remaining a low-cost energy country using the vast reserves of high-quality coal which the country has. Turnbull had almost the opposite view of the world wanting to transform Australia into a new low carbon high-tech economy. Scott Morrison emerged, almost like a character out of the BBC’s Yes Prime Minister, as the compromise candidate who sat in the middle and could heal a party after the philosophical wars between Abbott and Turnbull. The problem is, no decisions have been made since August 2018 despite Morrison receiving an unexpected healthy victory at a national election in May 2019. Yes, he and Minister Angus Taylor have held lots of consultations – but no...

How to Survive 2 Weeks of Working from Home

This morning Richard Carter challenged the participants and his networking event with how would we manage our businesses if we were forced to work from home for two weeks because of the implications of Covid-19. The participants were drawn from small service-based businesses. Remarkably, the group seemed to have all considered this issue to some degree or another yes somehow contingency plans formally written and others had done felt with the issue in recent times having returned from China. It was clear that the majority of people would continue to run the business in much the same way as they do now. As with the Projects RH business today the vast majority of our communication with clients, and prospective clients, as well as strategic alliance partners and service providers is by telephone, email and videoconferencing. By and large only the venue would change. Both Projects RH and Tabatinga, based in Singapore, deal with clients whom we cannot see on a day-to-day basis. ...

HOW MECHANICAL SHOULD YOUR CONSULTANT BE?

HOW MECHANICAL SHOULD YOUR CONSULTANT BE? Another Frequently Asked Question, by Paul Raftery At Projects RH we do pride ourselves on knowing that each client is special and known by the relevant team members. In dealing with clients with similar issues it would be remiss of us not to build checklists and to process map what needs to happen. A case in point is our part in the investment visas application process. I also guess that in having an engineer for a CEO requiring to find processes and monitoring performance against these almost goes without thinking. Our processes need to be well developed to show we can give the client the level of service they deserve.  Having defined processes and checklists enables us to readily respond to the queries of our clients but more importantly to monitor their progress before there is a query. This is especially important as Projects RH, via its strategic alliance partners, process manages much of the activities. Nevertheless, o...
